Drug prices
India controls its drug prices by a direct method. It passed a drug price control order which controls the prices of bulk drugs as well as that of formulations. NPPA is a national authority which has the power of controlling the prices of all drugs. In addition, the Govt. is contemplating the idea of setting up a mechanism to negotiate the prices of patented medicines with the innovator companies. Such a mechanism exists in other countries where strategies such as reference pricing, cost valuation and volume control are used to control prices of drugs. This plan is probably the Govt.'s response to the way Novartis has reacted to its patent application for imatinib being rejected by the Madras High Court. One hopes that the nation wins in the imatinib case. And one also hopes that India remains a place where high quality drugs are produced at low prices.
AU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences
AU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences Annual Day Celebrations
The season that the students wait for most ardently has come around again. We celebrate the annual day in the third week of March 2007. By convention, the III B.Pharm students are in charge of the nearly month long activities and the celebrations on the final day. The speciality this year is that the activities are including participation in games by the affiliated colleges of Andhra University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In the coming one month (in the evenings mostly) students play games, make the staff and scholars play games, and participate in many more activities such as extra curricular activities and cultural activities. On the annual day, celebrations start from afternoon itself; girls and boys come all decked up. Some important people in the Pharmacy field are invited as guests and the Head of the Department gives a report of the activities of the previous year. The college magazine is released. Guests give their messages. Prize distribution starts and goes on and on and on for a long time as there are so many events which have been conducted. Teaching staff sponsor various prizes and the students appreciate it. This programme is followed by cultural programme and dinner. This year pharmainfo.net has come forward to sponsor the sports prizes.
The activities will be inaugurated on 24th February. Nearly 300 students will be participating in all the events. Sports activities include cricket, volleyball, throwball, table tennis, badminton, tennicoit, chess, running, long jump, high jump, and shotput.
Gallery events include paper presentations, creative drawing, essay writing, dumb charade, singing, antyakshari and quiz.
Inter collegiate competitions will be conducted for Pharmacy Colleges affiliated to AU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Volley ball, Throw ball and quiz. Ten colleges are expected to send their teams.
Let us wish the events a grand success.
